Two-thirds of the estimated 1 million children who run away each year were physically or sexually abused.
Every Death Row inmate reported growing up in a violent, abusive environment.
History
In 1973, Dr. Donald and Lois Verleur took in four teenage girls, and opened what they believed to be the first home for children in Orange County , California . Drawing from the olive tree in the front yard and the idea of a family crest, Olive Crest, a name symbolizing “peaceful family,” was born.
Today, over 35 years later, Olive Crest has grown to become a leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse, with over 900 employees serving nearly 5,000 children and families each year throughout California , Nevada , and the Pacific Northwest . Though more than three decades have passed, the Verleurs’ originating commitment to the welfare of at-risk youth continues to fuel Olive Crest’s mission to make a difference, “One Life at a Time.” ®

Vision
The vision of Olive Crest is to be the national leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse. To accomplish this vision, Olive Crest has developed the following strategy to be reached by 2010:
Lead in program quality and outcomes by achieving 100% of the Quality Management Plan by 2010.
Increase children and families served annually to 10,000 by 2010.
Financial support for the children and families by securing $10 million in the C.A.R.E. (Child Abuse Rescue Effort) Fund by 2010.
Expand awareness to every state through the Keeping Children Safe campaign by 2010. |
