Pharmacy Technician I
Temporary Position: 9/2009 - 2/2010
Schedule: On Call rotating schedule to include nights, during the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m. Monday - Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday.
Purpose of Job:
Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor, assists the pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions, maintenance of inventory and cash control systems.
This position also has compliance accountability and/or responsibility for Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, the Principles of Responsibility, accreditation standards (if applicable), and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as, proper use of Kaiser Permanente Personal Computer (PC) and applications.
Accountabilities:
1. Greets members and answers routine inquiries regarding health plan drug coverage, prices, and pharmacy services using a working knowledge of prescription benefits.
2. Receives requests from patients for new and refill prescriptions and over the counter medications and supplies, assures that the necessary patient information is complete and verifies eligibility status of the member. Accurately enters all new and refill prescription requests into the computer system. Processes VRU (Voice Response Unit), in-basket and KP online prescriptions.
3. Procures the correct drug, counts dose accurately, and attaches the proper labels to a completed prescription prior to the final check of a pharmacist.
4. Files filled prescriptions correctly in pick up bins. Sorts and files prescription.
5. Performs other related duties as directed.
Minimum Requirement- Relevant Years of Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. One year of pharmacy work experience required or documented completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program or Pharmacy student matriculating in an accredited school of pharmacy up to the first professional year.
Minimum Requirement - License, Certification and/or Designation:
Compliance with all state board of pharmacy rules and licensing requirements where applicable.
Other Qualifications
Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.
