Basic Qualifications: Must possess a CPA license or five years of public accounting experience.
Core Competencies: - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Technical Discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. - Typically possesses seven or more years experience in income tax accounting plus five or more years of supervisory or project management experience. - Demonstrated experience with FAS 109 and tax return preparation. - Demonstrated experience managing and implementing medium to large multidisciplinary projects, including identifying, maintaining, and/or adjusting the cost, scope, and resources and overseeing the formal planning, tracking, and reporting of project performance, as well as experience managing cross-functional teams. - Demonstrated experience working with outside consultants, external auditors, personnel from other departments and other tax personnel in reviewing facts and circumstances and the interpretation and application of the tax law. - Demonstrated knowledge of the tax law and able to determine how to apply it to the utility industry facts and circumstances. - Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused, to appropriately identify and respond to clients business needs and facilitate the presentation of recommendations. - Demonstrated ability to identify how tax issues can potentially be overlapping and to communicate the impact to appropriate individuals. - Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information, integrate people processes, systems, and technologies, and make strategic decisions regarding project scope, impact, policy, development, and implementation. - Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with clients, peers, contractors, regulatory agencies and all levels of management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in. - Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and accountability for results. - Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. - Must demonstrate excellent business mastery, including the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers. - Must demonstrate excellent management mastery, including effective resource and project planning, team building, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation. - Must demonstrate strong personal mastery, including ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Preferences: Masters in Taxation. Typical Responsibilities: The successful candidate will support the Finance/ Accounting department by managing the tax accounting and special tax projects area. In addition the position will be responsible for the supervision of external tax accountants and consultants working on special tax projects and other FAS 109 issues. This position will be the liaison for the Tax Accounting group to ensure that all FAS 109 issues are properly addressed. Typical responsibilities will include: Managing and working on special FAS 109 projects; Working with people within SCE, EIX , EMG and outside consultants to understand the tax implications at the SCE and EIX levels; Continuous improvement on the Powertax provision system; Preparing/reviewing SCE and EIX financial statement tax filing requirements related to stand-alone and consolidated issues; Gathering the proper information for analysis from various groups; Coordinating and managing the tax provision accrual process in order to streamline and make more efficient; Managing the effort to synchronize the provision and tax return processes in order to streamline the RTP process; Managing the process of identifying and measuring FIN 48 reserves to ensure that all reserves are recorded on a timely and accurate basis; Preparing and reviewing EIX consolidated FIN 48; Preparing, reviewing, and providing all FAS 109 related reports including but not limited to the rate reconciliation and deferred tax roll forward schedules on a monthly basis; and performing other duties and responsibilities as required.
