Job Description

SUMMARY

Blackboard Inc. (Nasdaq: BBBB) is seeking a full-time attorney to join the as the lead counsel for the Connect division of Blackboard to be based in its Sherman Oaks, CA office.  The individual will join a vibrant legal team in supporting corporate and commercial activities of all three business units: Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Connect and Blackboard Transact, with a greater focus on the Blackboard Connect business The individual should be a self-starter as he/she will be the sole representative of the Legal department in the Sherman Oaks office which consists of approximately 100 employees.  The individual will work in collaboration with the full Blackboard Legal department which consists of over 20 professionals including 8 attorneys including specialists in employment, IP and corporate practices.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts for Blackboard Connect and other business units for sales, marketing and business development
  • Advising operational departments on legal issues for various Blackboard business initiatives
  • Reviewing RFPs, and providing other sales support
  • Providing general legal support and counseling to the Blackboard Connect organization
Required Experience

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Minimum of five years of corporate and/or commercial practice in a large law firm (200+ attorneys).   
  • JD degree and state bar admission in good standing.  .
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Ability to assist with investigations and litigation
  • Positive references.


Preferred

  • MBA, undergraduate business, accounting or computer science degree is a plus.
  • In-house experience is a definite asset.
  • Experience with Internet, technology licensing and/or software companies is a plus.
