Amazon.com is looking for a qualified Security Operations Engineer for our Global Security Engineering organization. You will provide support to ensure that our applications and infrastructure operate to the highest security standards, thus maintaining and enhancing customer trust.
If you enjoy working in a highly technical and rapidly changing environment, troubleshooting system services, operating systems, networks and applications from a security perspective, this position will provide you with a challenging opportunity.
Key tasks include:
- Providing front line support for all information security related issues, such as firewall configuration, managing SSL Certificates, advising on security policy compliance, handling data confidentiality issues, monitoring and responding to emerging threats. This position requires out-of-hours on-call work.
- Troubleshooting issues affecting the security of Amazon’s computing resources
- Follow standard practices and procedures to respond appropriately to external and internal threats
- Providing support for security-focused tools and services
- Providing front line support for internal customers working on security compliance projects (e.g. PCIDSS, SOX)
- Contributing to the development of the Global Security Engineering organization’s policies and processes
- Working directly with Amazon Technical Operations personnel to provide information security support during events impacting tier one customer-facing services
- Identify and troubleshoot recurring issues and escalate these appropriately for full resolution
- Evangelizing security within Amazon.com and be an advocate for customer trust
Requirements:
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent required
- At least 1 year of system security, network and/or application security experience
- At least 1 year of experience working in an operational role for a commercial organization
- Technical knowledge in security engineering, system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, and application security
- Knowledge of system security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques
- Knowledge of network and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols)
- Strong scripting skills in at least one of the following is highly desired: Perl, Python, shell (bash, ksh, csh). Working knowledge of one of C, C++ or Java would be an advantage

- CISSP, CISA, CISM and/or other security certifications encouraged.
