Jefferson Associates, Inc. is looking for an experienced Oracle 10g database architect / DBA to work with our downtown Houston public sector customer to identify, recommend & implement solutions based on industry best practices. Candidate will be involved with data model design and be responsible for physical implementation. They will be involved with all phases of database administration, including but not limited to: development, test, production, database maintenance, performance and tuning, backup and recovery, and production support. The end goal is to provide knowledge transfer to those ultimately responsible for long-term support of the Oracle database environment.
Responsiblities:
- Database/Data mart design and analysis.
- Perform all Oracle database administration duties such as: Create databases; move data between environments (development, testing, training, production); Software upgrades; Software configurations; DB recoveries.
- Installation support for Oracle products and supporting software infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain automated routines, scripts, etc. to assist with housekeeping chores.
- Monitor server performance, perform db tuning, adjust configurations as needed.
- Develop data backup and recovery strategies and procedures.
- Knowledge transfer to technical staff.
- Other duties as required.
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge/experience with Oracle 10g, supporting large production environments.
- 5 years experience with Unix (HP-UX preferred).
- 5 years minimum designing and supporting Oracle databases.
- Extensive knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, or other scripting experience.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call database support.
Desired Skills:
- Working knowledge/experience installing, configuring and administering Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) environments.
- Ability to build and execute Disaster Recovery plan using Oracle Data Guard.
- Knowledge of Web services and web-based applications.
- Capacity planning and forecasting.
