Provide prevention, education and intervention services to youth and families
Phoenix House seeks a Prevention Specialist to provide prevention education to high-risk youth and families using research based curriculum. The Strengthening Families program includes multi-family educational sessions for children and parents to increase effective family communication and reduce juvenile delinquency and chemical dependency problems. Families have the opportunity to practice concepts from the educational sessions during a community meal provided at each session.
This position requires frequent local travel between service sites in the Dallas area and may include evening or weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications - Education, Skills, and Experience: · Degree in education, social work or related field preferred. · Certified Prevention Specialist designation preferred · Two years experience working with youth in chemical dependency prevention, intervention or treatment setting; At least one year experience working with families is also required for positions that will work with families · Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with youth, team members, parents and community contacts. · Ability to effectively present material to facilitate learning and life skill development in youth or families · Ability to effectively manage classroom while presenting educational material · Ability to work with independently or in a team environment · Proficiency in MS Office products and experience utilizing web-based programs · Good organization and time management skills · Valid Texas driver’s license · Ability to effectively communicate in both Spanish and English is preferred · Ability to model positive behavior.
