Controls Scientist (Sr. Development Scientist): Liebert Corp.

Liebert, an Emerson Network Power business, the world leader in mission critical power and cooling technology currently is seeking a Controls Scientist (Sr. Development Scientist) located in Columbus, Ohio. This position will provide technical leadership in developing controllers that control the behavior of thermodynamic systems.

Essential Functions Include:

· Develops and leads development projects or activities in an area of scientific or engineering specialty.

· Contributes to and directs the development of new product opportunities for Liebert.

· Frequently directs and monitors the project work of one to three associates.

· Contributes to the establishment of technical staff development and operational goals.

· Contributes to or plans projects, determines technical objectives and applies advanced theories and concepts in an engineering or scientific specialty.

· Develops solutions to complex problems analyzes data, provides technical interpretation and recommendations and contributes to and directs the documentation of results.

· Represents Engineering in technical meetings with Liebert departments and others outside of Liebert.

· Works independently with General Management direction.

· Responsible for developing an adhering to project schedules.

· Initiates and carries out appropriate self-development efforts.

· Assists Management in training and guiding less experienced associates and in evaluating technical performance and development needs.

· May perform tasks and other activities as required by Management.

Qualifications include:

• Master’s of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years experience in applying advanced control theory to dynamic systems.
• Knowledge of classical and modern control theory:

o Closed-loop control

o PID control and tuning closed loop dynamics

o Transfer functions

o Time-domain state space representation

o Stability

o Controllability and observability

o Control specifications

o Model identification and robustness

· Experience with the following:

o Linear and Nonlinear systems control

o Multivariable system analysis and design

o Numerical technique of finite element method or finite element analysis.

· Experience with different control strategies such as:

o Adaptive control

o Hierarchical control

o Intelligent control – fuzzy logic

o Optimal control

o Robust control

o Stochastic control

· Experience with simulating systems using Matlab/Simulink and C/C++.

· Experience with modeling various systems such as:

o Electrical systems

o Mechanical systems

o Electromechanical systems

· Experience with Real Time Controls

o Using PC’s and microcontrollers

o Programming using C/C++

o Analog and digital control
