Director, Image Coding Engineering: Dolby Laboratories

Reporting directly to the VP of Image Technology for Research and Engineering, you will lead and manage the image coding/processing engineering team to deliver world class technologies to market. Your leadership and influence will lead internal and external stakeholders toward common goals by driving new technology proposals through the phases of proving engineering feasibility development planning and development. You will be the role model for Dolby values of respect for individuals, trust and high ethical standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with marketing to create product roadmaps for image coding
  
  
• Works jointly with image research team to build an efficient repeatable process to transfer innovative technologies to engineering including enhanced efficiency video encoding/decoding based on existing (e.g. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) or future video coding standards and technologies, 3D coding systems, video pre-processing and post-processing among others. Focus may be on both consumer and professional level applications and/or systems.
  
  
• Works with team and Research to identify patentable engineering innovations
  
  
• Supports Program Manager and the Innovation and Development Process (IDP)
  
  
• Project manages team to create deliverables to other teams and directly to customers. These may include libraries, SDK’s, Systems Kits and Implementation Kits.
  
  
• Stays abreast of new technologies, market trends, changing customer needs, and strategies of competitors
  
  
• Responds to market changes as time progresses, and adjusts the technology, the timing, and the priority of strategies as new information surfaces

Education, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required

• BSEE, BSCS, MSEE, or MSCS or equivalent plus at least 10 years engineering experience in image codec software design and development
  
  
• Demonstrated ability to create end product deliverables on time and on budget
  
  
• Ability to develop strong working relationships with partners, customers, and team members at all levels. Ability to deal with unexpected challenges in a collaborative, professional manner.
  
  
• Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, and direct codec software engineers
  
  
• Excellent written, oral and presentation skills required. Foreign language skills and/or international experience a plus.
  
  
• Experience with Agile development process is a plus
  
  
• Experience managing offshore engineering teams is a plus
  
  
• Fluency in C, C++, Vector Processing, and similar programming languages and structures that are used to deal with high definition video, audio, UI, and network interfacing for CE oriented products.

Note: This position may require periodic international travel.
