Candidates should have a history of education or work activity that demonstrates an interest in chemistry, automation, and production methods. Study in any scientific discipline, or extensive work experience with complex machinery including automated systems, are indicators of real interest in the type of work for this position. At a minimum, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and two years of chemical process experience.
This position involves a variety of technical tasks for multiple jobs including core loading, auto/manual racking, anodizing tank line operation, and fork lift operation. A candidate must be able to perform all jobs per the essential functions including the ability to wear a full face or PAPR respirator. A candidate should have previous experience working with hazardous materials in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience in performing basic lab scale analysis (pH measurements, titrations, etc) in a manufacturing environment is a plus (this is not a lab environment).
Extensive on-the-job training will include mechanical, chemical, and electrical safety, product and process knowledge, robotics and process control systems, environmental and waste regulation (as they apply to the operator level), fork truck operation, and the use of web-based and PC tools for gathering and interpreting data.
After reaching proficiency, candidate will routinely use these skills: Initiate and monitor automated processes Respond to system messages Set-up, tear-down, clean, and install complex process hardware Formulate solutions and mixtures of chemicals Measure the properties of liquids, dispersions, and anodized cylinders using basic laboratory equipment Review and classify defects in anodized cylinders Interpret test data and adjust process conditions as needed Ensure compliance with procedures covering safety and environmental regulations Work alone and with others to develop and modify operating procedures Move parts and materials as needed, some times using fork trucks
A moderate amount of physical dexterity and strength is required. The following are considered Essential Functions of the job, and any candidate must be able to perform all of them.
Anodizing Operator Essential Functions: · Rotate and perform anodize operator tasks. · Scoop and weigh dry chemicals. Lifts up to 25 pounds may be required. · Start-up, operate, monitor, and maintain anodizing process. · Use computer to monitor process, meter chemicals, etc. · Change acid filters. · Fill and change-out chemical drums or containers. · Dispense chemical solutions from chemical containers. · Use drum dollies, pallet jacks, and carts to move chemical containers, drums, cylinders, and hazardous waste drums weighing up to 750 pounds. · Perform analytical tests on anodizing solutions (e.g.titrations, etc.). · Clean anodizing room with water hoses and spray. Pressure washer is on wheels but handle is lifted which requires approximately 40 pounds of force. Frequency: Once/week
Physical Requirements: · Stand for approximately 7 hours per day. · Ability to walk up and down 2 stairs approximately 50 times per day (up 50 times – 100 steps, down 50 times – 100 steps for a total of 200 steps per day) to perform manual racking. · Ability to pass respirator medical exam and wear respirator during strenuous physical activity. · Ability to work with chemicals. · Ability to operate a fork truck. · Lift up to 25 lbs of chemical containers/equipment (e.g. pumps). · Use of both hands and adequate grip strength to lift chemical containers and process equipment. · Initial push/pull force of 15-20 lbs to move anodize carts approximately 100 times per shift. · Good hand dexterity and use of both hands to perform work including manual racking. · Adequate eyesight to monitor process computers and analytical test equipment. · Initial pull/tilt force 80-100 lbs to tilt drums onto drum dolly approximately twice per week. Battery operated drum dolly is available but may not be operational at all times. · Initial push/pull force 40-50 lbs to use pallet jack to move drums to/from load station approximately once per hour per shift.
