Who we need!
Providence Health and Services is seeking a Master Black Belt for our Eastern Washington ministries, based in Spokane. The Master Black Belt fills a key position as coach, mentor, educator, internal consultant, and strategic business partner. The MBB is responsible for driving the broader implementation of Six Sigma and Operational Excellence (OE) in the organization by coaching leaders, mentoring Belts, training new Belts, and educating other employees in the Operational Excellence methodologies and tools. The MBB will lead significant performance improvement activities using CAP, Work-Out, Lean, and Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control). The MBB also has Six Sigma program management responsibilities as assigned. The MBB serves as a change facilitator and builds the internal capability within the organization to drive change.
Key accountabilities assigned to this position will include, but will not be limited to:
- Providing technical and strategic leadership for Providence Health & Services - Washington/Montana in developing, monitoring, and meeting Operational Excellence goals and objectives, participating in developing/updating strategic vision for Six Sigma and will leverage the Operational Excellence tools to drive implementation, and working closely with the Sr. Regional Director of Operational Excellence, Master Change Facilitators, other Master Black Belts and Regional Lean Leader to implement Operational Excellence in Washington/Montana
- Actively supporting and incorporating the mission and core values into daily activities; treating all others with respect and demonstrating excellence, justice and compassion in daily work and relationships with others
- Working with the Sr. Regional Director of Operational Excellence to design, implement, and manage Operational Excellence Project systems and structures: project funnel (project identification), project scoping, project selection and approval, project assignment, project monitoring and reporting, electronic project tracking system, dashboards to monitor performance, coaching/mentoring of belts, training sessions, recruitment, and other related activities
- Educating/coaching Senior Leaders, Sponsors, Owners on OE philosophy, CAP, Work-Out, Lean and Six Sigma content, roles and execution requirements
- Leading, training, and mentoring Belts on Operational Excellence projects; assisting belts in all elements of Operational Excellence project completion and monitoring progress / intervening as needed
- Identifying and advising leadership of potential process improvements and key initiatives that result in significant improvements in service delivery, increasing organizational effectiveness and/or increasing the safety of our environment to those providing and receiving care
- Facilitating communication with other Belts across the Providence Health & Services; transferring knowledge and benefits among belts within and across regions
Requirements:
Education: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree, a Master's Degree is preferred. The education requirement may be waived if the hiring authority deems the individual has equivalent experience and/or technical training.
Experience:This position requires a minimum of one year experience leading Six Sigma (DMAIC) or Six Sigma/Lean projects plus experience directing staff and managing projects, experience applying and integrating Lean tools within process improvement projects, experience with teaching and facilitation, and experience managing personnel that lead specific projects. Experience within a healthcare organization is preferred.

- Broad strategic thinker with a clear vision and a passion for Operational Excellence as a strategic philosophy
- Demonstrates skill in working collaboratively with others, coordinating staffing and delegating work assignments/instructions with little supervision
- Highly detail oriented with ability to work independently to identify issues, solve problems, prioritize work assignments, meet deadlines, and manage multiple concurrent projects with complete, accurate information and thorough analysis of issues
- Ability to present recommendations and/or decisions and persuade others, as necessary, with tact and diplomacy
- Knowledge of and proficiency in computer skills and applications such as; word processing software; spreadsheet software, PowerPoint and MiniTab
- Must be able to travel within the Washington/MT Region 20% - 60% including early morning and late evening
