Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1) EMS

a. Must demonstrate competency handling emergencies utilizing all Life Support equipment and skills in accordance with TDH and CCMH approved protocols.

b. Respond and handle EMS calls in accordance with TDH and CCMH approved protocols.

c. Maintains readiness of ambulances and equipment.

2) ER Tech

a. Perform patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on medical record. Achieve and maintain patient care competencies as determined by EMS/Emergency Department management.

b. Ensure adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care.

c. Assist transporting patients and equipment interdepartmentally.

d. Assist on Med/Surg floor or other departments as needed (i.e. lift assist, IV starts, V/S, etc)

Duty Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Education

High School graduate or equivalent

Licensure, Registry or Certification

Texas EMT License

Current CPR Certification

Current ACLS Certification

Current Texas Drivers License

Physical and Mental Requirements

1) Good manual dexterity, with ability to perform all tasks related to highest quality patient care.

2) Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain; and the ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture.

3) Ability to work in low light, confined spaces and other dangerous environments.

4) Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance);

Personal Job Related Skills

1) Ability to communicate verbally via telephone and radio equipment;

2) Ability to interpret written, oral, and diagnostic form instructions;

3) Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations;

4) Ability to interview patient, family members, and bystanders; ability to document, in writing, all relevant information in prescribed format in light of legal ramifications of such;

5) Ability to calculate weight and volume ratios and read small print, both under life threatening time constraints;

6) Ability to read and understand English language manuals and road maps;

7) Ability to accurately discern street signs and address numbers;

8) Ability to converse in English with coworkers and hospital staff as to status of patient.
