| | |  |  | Cytology Supervisor Seattle, WA Job Description : POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Lab Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for maintaining proper departmental functioning of the cytology lab in accordance with general laboratory policies. He/she is responsible for evaluating, coordinating and reviewing work performed in these areas and performs such work as necessary; exercises responsibility for providing a work atmosphere where the work flow is most efficient, and assures high factual accuracy such that the patient, physician and other medical professional can receive the highest quality service. The Supervisor will strive to maintain the department in the most cost effective manner. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: - Assists in the daily operation of his/ her department and pursues problems that arise and formulates corrective measures where necessary.
- Develops new policies and procedures as required and assists in implementation.
- Oversees instruction and training of new employees and ensures ongoing training or existing staff.
- Responsible for supply ordering and inventory control and maintains his/her department in a cost effective manner.
- Assists in preparation for CAP inspection and compliance.
- Responsible for billing of non-gyns on a daily basis.
- Responsible for Quality Assurance in the cytology department; quarterly QA and QC reports.
- Responsible for lab safety in his/her department.
- Exercises responsibility for his/ her own continuing education.
- Prepares and conducts performance appraisals on all personnel in his/ her department.
- Makes hiring, disciplinary and termination decisions in conjunction with the Lab Manager and Human Resources.
- Schedules work flow and makes adjustments for coverage due to sickness or absences.
- Performs all other duties consistent with training and/ or experience as requested or required by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires education equivalent to four years of college/ university, preferably a Bachelor of Science; ASCP registration required, and possession of a degree from an approved cytology school. Six years of recent cytology laboratory working experience required and previous supervisory experience preferred. Must have working knowledge of CLIA regulations, processing and FNAs. Candidate should be able to work under stressful, high volume conditions and with a large Pathology group. Job Requirements : HOURS: Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5;30 p.m. |
