The Senior Mechanical Engineer position is a senior level design engineering and management position. The successful candidate must have extensive experience in the design and construction of a variety of project types (higher education, medical facilities, large-scale commercial/industrial, federal/defense projects, etc.), as well as management and client relations experience. The candidate must be able to work successfully in a multi-office, multi-disciplined consulting engineering environment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Collaborates with market leader to make necessary resources available to discipline team.
- Motivates discipline team to achieve individual potential and sector objectives.
- Directly supervises discipline team members.
Project Performance (Quality, Schedule and Budget Management)
- Has responsibility for coordinating all aspects of mechanical engineering projects.
- Provides/extends mechanical systems for new construction and or renovation of industrial or commercial structures.
- Review/establish project scopes, mechanical budgets; feasibility studies and project cost estimates; design or approve mechanical systems: HVAC, piping, and plumbing.
- Supervise preparation of working drawings and project specifications. Supervise and develop technical staff and manage work to meet scope, budget, and deadlines.
- Responsible for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices in broad areas.
- A lead position, this level includes technical direction over a group of mechanical engineers and functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced mechanical engineering concepts.
- Coordinates technical and administrative activities with those of other disciplines and other departments in the company participating in a project.
Business Development
- Leads business development activities to develop discipline in new market, and as requested by market leaders and industry practices.
Workforce Development
- Leads recruiting activities to develop discipline team capacity and capabilities.
- Mentors discipline team members to develop technical capabilities and reach career path goals.
Critical Reporting/Working Relationships
This position will require effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to build and maintain reporting and working relationships within the Team, office and company.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer required
- LEED and/or CEM credentials preferred.
- 15 or more years of progressive work experience required with strong technical and management skills.
- Mechanical Engineering experience related to healthcare, large commercial/industrial, higher education, or federal projects.
- Commissioning experience a plus.
- Effective verbal/written communications, time management, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Display high level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels in the organization in a team environment.
- Ability to market mechanical engineering services to a wide variety of clients.
- Familiar with code requirements such as UBC, IBC, NFPA, UPC and the Uniform Mechanical Code.
- Enthusiastic, committed to their profession and personable.
Nature And Scope Of Position
- Requires ability to travel up to 30%.
- Requires prolonged sitting with the occasional need for walking, standing, bending, stooping and stretching.
- Requires the ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Requires a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
