Job Description
This tax accounting position will be an integral part of the tax team reporting to the manager of Tax Management Services, of Global Shared Services, NA, a division of Siemens Corp. The mission of the department is to provide comprehensive support to all represented Siemens Operating Companies for transactional taxes including: sales and use taxes, property taxes, business licensees; 1042 compliance, and annual reports.
Major areas of responsibility include: sales and use tax audit defense, reverse audits, tax consulting, tax planning, tax accounting and special projects to achieve assigned departmental and company objectives and targets. External contacts will include taxing authorities, vendors, partners, and auditors. Internally this position will interface with Siemens Operating Companies (SOC's) to obtain data to conduct tax audits, provide training, and tax consulting in the sales tax arena to meet Service Level Agreements (SLA) with SOC's.
Tax Auditing/Reverse Audits
•Complete the assigned business and affiliates sales and use tax audits while ensuring accuracy and timeliness in compliance with the laws of the applicable state and local taxing authorities and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the business.
•Represent the interests of the business and affiliates to state and local taxing authorities during sales and use tax audits to ensure the minimization of business and affiliate audit deficiencies and impact.
•Identify and execute internal audits to recover sales/use tax exposure amounts and overpayments.
Tax Consulting/Strategic Planning
•Provide the business and affiliates with written and verbal timely multi-state and local tax advice through tax law research that will increases tax compliance with the laws and regulations of state and local taxing authorities.
•Provide tax analysis, planning, control and reporting for the business consistent with the Siemens guidelines and requirements for contract negotiations.
•Document, comply, monitor, evaluate and update internal state and local tax -state and local tax training workshops for the business and affiliates.
Tax Accounting
•Timely and accurately prepare and communicate account reconciliations to SOC's for assigned sales and use tax accounts via the TMS standard to comply with Siemens SOX's requirements and SLA's with SOC's.
•Calculate, document, and present audit accrual reserve calculations to SOC's through statistical calculations and established methodologies to accurately reflect SOC's sales tax audit exposures.
Qualifications:
•Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or Finance
•3-5 years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of responsibilities and knowledge as presented above.
•Prior experience with a major company or governmental entity preferred
•CMI certification highly desirable
•Advanced concepts, practices, and procedures of Sales & Use Tax
•Demonstrated knowledge or principles and practices of sales and use tax.
•Demonstrated ability to operating in multiple ERP systems.
