Minimum Experience/Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or related degree.
Minimum 10 years experience in heavy industrial and/or large commercial energy management or related field(s). Departmental Required Skills: Knowledge of energy management systems standards and industrial energy planning strategies. Knowledge of industrial energy systems including effective use of conventional and renewable energy sources. Thorough understanding of industrial energy efficiency techniques and effective application of evolving energy technology. Ability to develop clear reports and presentations from technical information for communication to both technical and non-technical audiences. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word. PowerPoint, Access, and other PC software. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Masters Degree preferred. PE preferred. Knowledge of ANSI/MSE 2000 or DOE Plant Certification Program Managerial ability in administering an industrial energy management training and application program. Experience with continuing education and certificate programs. Ability to conduct surveys of energy intensive industrial and commercial facilities. Evaluate existing production processes and energy consumption practices, and develop recommendations to save energy. Ability to conduct utilities (e.g., compressed air, steam, HVAC, and lighting) and process energy surveys for both government facilities and private commercial and industrial facilities. Develop recommendations for modifications and estimates of energy savings and simple payback from the modifications. Essential Job Duties: Assist manufacturing facilities with training and implementation of energy management system standards such as ANSI/MSE 2000 and the DOE Plant Certification Program. Conduct reviews of industrial energy systems and develop strategic recommendations to support energy savings initiatives including management strategies for energy purchase, effective energy use, and technology applications. Facilitate public and in-plant training on energy management and sustainability concepts such as carbon footprints and clean manufacturing. Partner with and help develop e-learning programs for energy and sustainability. Identify, track, and pursue opportunities for external funding of department activities. Develop successful proposals for such funding. Provide vision and direction for the energy program in a way that supports the IES strategic plan. IES should be the primary contact for technical leadership and assistance in technology applications. Other Work/Responsibilities: Coordinate relevant seminars and on-site project proposals with clients. Work with IES account managers and energy subcontractors to ensure customer needs are met with projects.
