GENERAL SUMMARY
The Manager of the Credit Analysis Department supervises, coaches, develops and trains a staff of credit analysts. Provides analytical and underwriting support for commercial lenders by providing comprehensive credit analysis services including statement spreading, basic industry and borrower analysis and evaluation of specific existing and proposed extension of commercial credit. Performs all administrative duties associated with management of the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages bank wide analytical efforts to evaluate the credit worthiness of commercial borrowers by employing a variety of advanced analytical techniques.
- Supervises a staff of junior and senior credit analysts located in Southern California headquarters and out-of-state commercial lending offices.
- Assists with structuring of complex commercial credit transactions related to working capital finance, international finance and commercial real estate transactions.
- Serves as primary liaison between credit analysts and lenders and senior management; assures that department activities are conducted in a manner that compliment and enhance the bank’s lending strategies and market position.
- Reviews work product of credit analysts to assure adherence to bank standards with respect to the content and quality of written presentations and consistency of analyst recommendations with bank credit policy.
- Makes hiring recommendations; monitors workloads of individual credit analysts and assigns individual analytical assignments; develops training materials or curricula, as necessary, to improve the credit and analytical skills of analysts and lenders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting or related field. MBA, CFA or CPA preferred.
- Experience: More than 10 years in credit related experience with a demonstrated record of success as a credit analyst, underwriter or in other position related to commercial lending; management role in a large commercial banking environment required.
- Skills/Ability: Strong knowledge of financial accounting and the interpretation of business and personal tax returns. Solid understanding of commercial loan structures including those common to trade finance and commercial real estate transactions. Knowledge of potential misrepresentation and red flags in borrower financial information. Outstanding written and oral communications skills; ability to interact with borrowers, lending officers and bank management at all levels. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and financial modeling skills.
