Project Managers - Shanghai/Chicago

Architecture, Interiors, and Urban Planning

JOB DESCRIPTION

SOM has developed a unique approach to project management by identifying talented architecture professionals with business acumen, along with client relationship and communication abilities. It is the Project Managers responsibility to reconcile Client and SOM goals and priorities. PMs should enable clear communication among Team Members, Sub-Consultants, and Clients while managing complex projects. PMs promote Client and SOM fiscal responsibility and foster opportunities for design, technical, and management excellence. They monitor and document project progress and all appropriate reporting and communications. They cultivate professional relationships within and outside of SOM and mentor the next generation of Project Managers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Setting up a Project - Manage the setup of project plan, staffing requirements, financial projections/expenses, and deliverables
  • Contracts and Insurance - In conjunction with Project Partner, manage contracts with client contractors and subcontractors
  • Team Member Contacts - Primary contact with the Client, SOM Partners and Discipline Heads, SOM Sub-Consultants, Contractors, and Vendors.
  • Communications and Recordkeeping - Manage communications between SOM and Client, Contractors, and Subcontractors and verify proper documentation in all project phases
  • Meetings - Chair client meetings and minute discussions and emerging actions; chair SOM internal project meetings focusing on progress, milestones, deliverables, staffing, and coordination
  • Financial Management - Analyze time records with project plan to ensure consistency, manage project data in financial management system, work with accounting to ensure timely billing and receivable activity

Background and skillset:

  • Must have 5 year Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture
  • Must be a licensed architect or approaching end of licensing process
  • 7 or more years of increasing responsibility in all phases of design and technical architecture and project management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectural, interiors, or urban planning design, delineation, detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques, and costs
  • Experience in the coordination of the work of other disciplines, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting design, etc.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, though not used daily
  • Fluency in Mandarin required for Shanghai Project Manager candidates
