Part Time Respiratory Therapist

Position:
Under the supervision of the Manager and Coordinator of the Cardiopulmonary Department, performs diversified duties involving responsibilities for administration and evaluation of various respiratory care services to outpatients and inpatient in all areas of the hospital, and according to doctor’s orders. The respiratory therapist may be required to supervise and be responsible for the work of others within the department.
The respiratory therapist will also:
- review existing data in patient record, including admission and current respiratory care orders, patient history, physical exam, pulmonary function values, blood gas results and additional lab data.
- collect and evaluate additional pertinent clinical information by inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation, and patient review.
- administer updraft nebulizer treatments, metered dose inhalers, chest physiotherapy, aerosol therapy, and bedside incentive spirometry according to physician’s orders; administer specific concentrations of oxygen and other non-anesthetic gases using various techniques and devices; administer pulse oximetry and apnea monitoring as ordered.
- perform and evaluate blood gas analysis; perform and evaluate pulmonary function studies and other diagnostic tests in the pulmonary lab as required; perform quality control and calibration procedures for blood gas analyzers and pulmonary function equipment; is able to recognize and troubleshoot problems that arise with any respiratory equipment, to include ventilators, patient care equipment, ABG equipment, PFT equipment, etc.
- administer emergency resuscitation procedures such as airway maintenance and external cardiac massage, working with physicians and/or nursing personnel; perform as indicated basic electrocardiography; set up, operate and monitor sleep study equipment and patients having regular and CPAP titration sleep studies; set up and monitor patients on BiPap; assist with bronchoscopies.
Requirements:
Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy. Licensed in Respiratory Therapy (RRT or CRTT acknowledge) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts . CPR certified.
Other information: 12 hour and 8 hour shifts. Will include one 12 hour shift weekly between the hours of 7p and 7am. Will include one 8 hour shift weekly between the hours of 7a-11pm. Alternating weekends and holidays. Hours will vary in order to meet departmental needs. New Grads encouraged to apply.
