TIAA-CREF is seeking a Director, of Institutional Fiduciary Services for its St. Louis, MO office. This person will report to the Trust Company President and is responsible for directing the Institutional Trust business with the overall objective being to drive growth and profitability in a manner consistent with the values and interests of TIAA-CREF. Other key responsibilities include ensuring that accounts within the department are managed in accordance with terms of governing instruments, Trust Company policies and procedures, and in accordance with Federal, and State laws. This includes the review and interpretation of plan documents, coordination of administrative functions and oversight of operational processes. Business managed within the department includes but is not limited to: custody services, ERISA plans and endowments. Establishes and ensures compliance with policies and procedures for activities within their group. This is a hands-on position that includes client account management. In addition, growth and profitability of institutional business as well as all administrative activities within account base including account acceptance, on-going administration, relationship management and risk management. Also responsible for strategic planning, directing business initiatives, compliance, budgeting, and staff management.
Responsibilities:
- Manages the accurate processing and recordkeeping for all client, program, plan, disbursement, tax, cash and fee information; manages accurate and timely account lifecycle event processing; tracks and measures against standards; assures integrity of trust administration data and processing.
- Guides key custodian and financial partners in assuring bookkeeping and accounting accuracy; examines and resolves complex financial transactions; works closely with client and reporting teams in generating period close data for periodic reporting.
- Establishes guidelines and standards for productivity and efficiency; tracks and measures against standards; complies with financial and regulatory requirements; implements and enhances controls, policies and procedures that reduce risk. Instills a culture of continuous improvement for the timeliness and accuracy of financial and operational functions.
- Recruits, selects, trains and manages employees in order to meet department objectives. Establishes performance goals, expectations and monitors those results. Prepares and implements training, development and action plans. Provides performance feedback, coaching, and counseling in order to motivate staff to achieve performance standards; takes corrective action when needed.
Qualifications Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, MBA, JD and/or professional certifications preferred
- 10+ years experience within the financial services industry with at least 3 years in a supervisory role
- Strong experience in trust operations and/or service, particularly with institutional trust services
- Excellent ability to build effective relationships with internal and external parties to achieve business goals
- Relevant experiece working directly with ERISA and/or other Institutional Trust business.
- Working knowledge of fiduciary law, tax implications and practices in multiple jurisdictions, trust accounting/reporting, and other regulatory compliance requirements
- Experience working with non-qualified plans, trust agreements, as well as experience working on various committees is required.
- Knowledge of a Trust Accounting System and/or and Employee Benefits Platform would be most helpful: (SCI, EBR, etc.)
- Solid communication and presentation skills are essential.
- Willingness to travel - approximately 10% annually
