The Assistant Engineer will be responsible for interfacing between process operations and facility maintenance personnel. The student will have exposure to all facets of Merck Research Labs (MRL) Pilot Plant operations, facility maintenance, and capital upgrades developing practical application skills as an engineer. The individual will gain hands-on experience through assisting with maintenance activities and capital projects from the initial concept through construction and startup. Student will also work closely with process operations to support MRL drug development through the execution of process setups and facility maintenance, while complying with all Merck standards for current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and safety. The selected candidate will assist in the management of predictive and preventative maintenance programs to ensure minimal processing downtime and efficient drug development. Other working relationships may be required with central engineering, site operations, architectural and engineering firms, construction management firms, and other outside consultants. The student will gain an extensive understanding for various types of equipment used in the pharmaceutical/manufacturing industry.
Qualifications This position requires students to be in their Sophomore, Pre-Junior, or Junior year, pursuing a Bachelors of Science (B.S) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 is preferred. Prior pharmaceutical experience is a plus. This position is based in Rahway, NJ. Candidate must be available for a period of 6 months.
