Hasbro is currently recruiting enthusiastic, technically curious & confident undergraduate or graduate students to work as Engineering Co-ops at our Pawtucket, RI headquarters. Co-ops will assist Engineers & Project Managers in the development of their products & will learn how a toy is developed from initial concept in the U.S. to production overseas. Depending on education level, increasing experience & demonstrated ability, there will be opportunities to assume independent project &/or product design responsibility.
Co-op positions are available in the following departments
Product Development Engineering
-
Communicate with cross functional team (Marketing, Design, Project Management, Packaging, Quality, Legal, & Hasbro Far East Engineers) on product content related issues

Create product specification packages (using Excel, Word & our web-based product development system) defining product content, functionality & performance, including cost & delivery targets
-
Perform tests, analyze data, & provide design direction during the concept & debug phase of development
-
Participate in product cost reviews & cost reduction efforts to meet business objectives
-
Part and mechanism creation with SolidWorks may be available for candidates with knowledge of this CAD software (depending on business need)
Advanced Technology & Innovation
-
Perform technology mining/research & participate in product brainstorming sessions
-
Identify opportunities to apply technology to new & existing Hasbro brands & provide technical advice & feasibility assessment for new concepts.

Create “gameplay” definition & assist in the programming of Animatronic concept models
-
Build, assemble & debug proof of concept “breadboard models” & prototypes
-
Create part & mechanism assemblies with SolidWorks for rapid-prototyping
Project Management
-
Communicate with cross functional team (Engineering, Marketing, Design, Packaging, Quality, Operations, & Hasbro Far East office) on schedule & operational related issues

Create & maintain reporting that demonstrates actual development process & tracking of goals for review by senior management
-
Create initial product development schedule & drive team toward adherence
-
Facilitate development meetings & summarize agreed upon direction.

Ensure process compliance & assist with training & standardization of our processes.
Quality Assurance Engineering
-
Evaluate design concepts for safety & reliability risks
-
Assist with identifying & assigning appropriate toy product safety & performance testing specifications
-
Analyze consumer returns for root causes & determine corrective actions as necessary
-
Interact with Project Engineers, Designers, & Marketers, both domestically & overseas, to support the development of simple to moderately complex products before, during, & after production to address any product safety or reliability concerns

Assist in the regulatory compliance process for Hasbro’s diverse product portfolio
Electrical Engineering
-
Create electronic schematics using Multisim & build/test electrical prototype boards
-
Program electronic toys that utilize 8-bit microprocessors & speech synthesizers
-
Perform sound editing in multiple languages
-
Refine product game play for program development (i.e. writing flow charts or robotic routines)
-
Identify & troubleshoot issues with development models & work with overseas vendors to correct them
-
Evaluate competitive products & perform research on new technologies for different applications

Must have basic programming skills & knowledge of basic electronics & transistor theory
Qualifications:

Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student
-
Must be available to work full-time for a Spring/Summer or Summer/Fall term

Co-op assignment can be either a mandatory or optional requirement for graduation
Preference will be given to candidates with:
-
Completion of at least one year of study towards a BS in Engineering (majors noted above)

Project work or co-op experience in product design engineering, mechanism design &/or robotics
-
Excellent communication & interpersonal effectiveness skills

Strong time/project management skills & the desire to build/expand competency in this area

Intermediate-level skills in MS Excel, Word & Outlook & web-based applications
