| Job Description: TAX BUSINESS ANALYST Description Reporting to the Director of Tax, Legal and Regulatory Affairs (“Director”), the Tax Business Analyst will be the tax department’s proprietary tax preparation application and subject matter expert. Tax reporting is a mission-critical client service deliverable. It represents a core competency of the firm. The role is responsible for producing and maintaining system documentation and training materials, analyzing system changes needed to comply with changes in reporting requirements identified by the Director, working with IT staff to make the software changes, and playing a key role during tax season and throughout the year to ensure the system is producing the correct results. The Manager of Tax Processing will provide this position with project management support in working on the software changes and managing the tax season. The Director will maintain business ownership of all tax processes and overall responsibility for tax compliance. The Analyst is responsible for building strong relationships with key internal business owners/contributors, and IT and Operations staff. Responsibilities Develop full familiarity with the business, its clients, deliverables and critical milestones, as related to annual tax production Develop and maintain a detailed users manual and technical documentation Produce training materials in conjunction with the Manager of Tax Processing Train end-users on the systems functionality and how to resolve commonly faced preparation issues Learn the requirements of the federal and state forms and analyze form changes Analyze software changes needed to accommodate tax reporting and form changes Work with the Director and the Manager of Tax Processing to determine and prioritize business requirements for enhancements to the tax system Write business requirements, develop testing plans and scripts, and participate in testing to compare actual with expected results Develop a full understanding of the interface with other systems and system data requirements Trouble shoot and resolve reporting, interface and application issues Perform quality checks during the loading and importing of data during tax season, upon rollover of data at the end of tax season and during the mid-year review of data. Provide support to end-users during tax season, mid-year reviews, and rollover Identify improvement opportunities Perform other tax compliance duties as needed Qualifications and Experience 3-5 years of combined experience in tax preparation and tax business or systems analyst work Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of organizational roles Highly effective in verbal and written communication with technical specialists and business end-users Demonstrates initiative, a strong work ethic, flexibility Able to thrive in a dynamic environment experiencing significant change and business transformation Eagerness to maintain a “zero-defects” reporting system Detail oriented, but also able to work at the conceptual level Proficiency using Excel Knowledge specifically of trust taxation a plus Education and Certifications Bachelor’s Degree Masters in Tax or related business degree a plus CPA or related certification a plus Required Skills: tax |
