OCEAN EXPORT MANAGER / ASSISTANT MANAGER

Secaucus, New Jersey

Position Description

Our New York Branch has an excellent opportunity for an Ocean Export Manager or Assistant Manager, depending on experience.

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, energetic individual with leadership qualities for our ocean export operations department. The ideal candidate should have five or more years of work experience in ocean freight forwarding and at least two years in a supervisory position. Candidate should have excellent organizational skills, a positive attitude with the ability to quickly change priorities providing guidance and direction to staff in a fast moving environment. Very good interpersonal skills, a positive, professional demeanor and attention to detail are essential.

Requirements:

    • High school graduate or GED
    • 5+ years’ freight-forwarding industry experience in Ocean Export
    • 2+ years in a supervisory position
    • Experience in FCL / LCL Ocean Cargo logistics and documentation
    • Experience with steamship lines' Bill of Lading and INCO terms
    • Experience with Ocean accounting, accounts payable / receivable
    • Basic PC skills – MS Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, AS400 knowledge
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Satisfactory Performance Review history

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Identify, organize, assign and coordinate customer shipping requirements to staff.
    • Effective delegation of work with review and follow up to ensure proper operation.
    • Verify that all compliance and regulatory requirements are properly addressed.
    • Ensure that excellent customer service is carried out by the department to optimize account growth.
    • Negotiate rates with carriers, prepare and submit quotations to prospective accounts on a daily basis.
    • Punctual follow up to all inquiries, including RFI’s, RFQ’s and all other customer inquiries
    • Maintain file rates posting internally in accordance with FMC guidelines
    • Coordinate inbound hub activities and communications from branches / satellite offices
    • Daily interaction and departmental performance reporting to management.
    • Verify and monitor timely handling of all departmental accounts payable and receivable matters.
    • Full responsibility and accountability for all export department related matters.
