Job Description: Nurse II The RN performs responsible professional nursing clinical practice and administrative nursing duties. Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing, the RN is responsible for the care and treatment of consumers in accordance with accepted professional, legal, and ethical standards. The RN directly supervises, instructs and evaluates subordinate nursing personnel. The RN provides necessary information to Team Members to ensure health needs of the consumers are met. Generally works at least one weekend duty per month |

Essential Job Functions: Performs various assessment activities for acute and chronic health problems to meet the needs of consumers served in Facility. Administers and monitors administration of medications and treatments and is knowledgeable of expected responses and presence of untoward effects. Performs various emergency responses. Consistently assesses emergency situations and initiates appropriate actions such as CPR, oxygen administration, suctioning, etc. Properly performs various infection control interventions. Documents according to facility policy and procedure. Coordinates nursing health care services with other disciplines and performs other related activities in development and monitoring of consumers' habilitation plan. Responds in a timely manner to special requests and assigned duties initiated by the DON. Performs vairous personnel management activities, including supervision of LVNs and CMAs. Ensures organization of department by planning projects, making assignments, delegating responsibility and obtaining feedback. |

Knowledge Skills Abilities: 1. Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing rules/regulations, methods, procedures, techniques and human relations. 2. Must demonstrate a practical working knowledge of cultural, social and economic forces in family and group relationships. 3. Must be able to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities and staff members. 4. Must be able to keep records and make reports. 5. Must be able to calculate simple mathematical dosages of medications. 6. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e. CPR. 7. Must be able to present ideas clearly and concisely utilizing English in both written and verbal communications. 8. Must have practical working knowledge of non-verbal communication in order to understand the needs of individuals unable to communicate verbally. |

Registration or Licensure Requirements: Registered as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact |

Initial Selection Criteria: Nurse I: Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program with a valid permit to practice in the State of Texas while awaiting licensure. Nurse II: Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN), plus one (1) year work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility; or two years of work experience as an LVN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility; or a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program. |
