Out of State transfers must meet the criteria set by North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission for immediate certification. This positions is being advertised for a specialized position with the NCSU Police Department. Departmental Required Skills: Must have prior law enforcement experience. Must be at an advanced level of riding and years of experience with horses. Must be familiar with horse tack and horse related equipment, terms, and health maintenance. Must be willing and able to train and work with horses over obstacles and in challenging areas. Must be able to work well with the public and possess excellent communication skills. Must have a working knowledge of Community Oriented and Problem Oriented Policing strategies. Must be organized and self sufficient. Applicants must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment, Class I respirator, riot control gear, and score a minimum 80 percent on firearms qualification. Applicants must successfully pass the North Carolina Police Officer Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) prior to final offer of employment. Must be at least 20 years old. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Associates Degree or higher Previous mounted patrol certification is preferred Prior work with training horses preferred Essential Job Duties: Police duties include preventing and suppressing crime, protecting life and property, conducting thorough preliminary and follow up investigations, effecting arrest, pursuing fleeing suspects, perform rescue operations, preparing reports, determine when there is reasonable suspicion to detain, probable cause to arrest, operate law enforcement vehicle. Day and night shift Applicants should have extensive equestrian background. Duties for Mounted Patrol include grooming and upkeep of mounts, maintaining cleanliness of tack and equipment, maintaining the patrol truck and horse trailer. Barn duty to include; cleaning stalls, feeding horses, pasture management, and checking on horses over the weekend. Administration duties to include; ordering of all medical supplies, feed, tack, and other horse related equipment, logging all purchase orders and equipment, logging daily activity reports, scheduling and preparing for all demonstrations and events, scheduling farrier appointments and veterinarian appointments. Maintaining horse health to include; administering some injections, tending to minor injuries, proper management of weight, ensuring required vaccines are administered and documented, and overall healthcare of the horses. Maintaining and documenting required monthly training and annual certification of mounts. Safely utilizing the mount as a vehicle around campus, ensuring horse safety and public safety. No felony convictions, good driving record; Basic Law Enforcement Training (eligible to be sworn in by hiring officer); pass psychological, physical and drug test examinations; basic computer skills, and FBI fingerprint criminal check. All new hires and transfers from other agencies must serve a 12 month probationary period.
