Third Shift Maintenance Technician for Production Facility in Newport News



Position Summary: Repairs and maintains production equipment consisting of components such as hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics and general mechanical. Working third shift.

Duties:

· Oils, greases, inspects, and maintains production equipment as necessary and as scheduled to keep them functioning optimally.

· Troubleshoots and repairs production equipment malfunctions reported to maintenance by line supervisors.

· Test operates production machinery before and after repairs are made. Machinery includes, but is not limited to, mixers, saws, conveyors, box makers, sealers, fryers, freezers, Raytheon machine, forklifts, separators, and baggers.

· Operates drills, saws, grinders, welding apparatus, presses, and a variety of manual tools to repair and maintain production equipment.

· Monitors and maintains building and grounds functions such as plumbing, general electric wiring, and painting.

· Responsible for communication of progress of repair work, potential problems, and general functioning of equipment to line supervisors and incoming maintenance shifts.

· Composes and submits requests to proper approval authorities and/or procurement personnel for parts, as necessary, to facilitate repairs and maintenance.

· Records and maintains all relevant maintenance work completed and keeps a logbook of daily activities.

· Coordinates maintenance efforts with outside machinery technicians to facilitate expedient and proper repair.

· Makes equipment adjustments as requested by line supervisors to assist machine operators with accurate functioning of precision production equipment.

· Diagnoses and repairs, in a timely fashion and with the minimum number of new parts, machine malfunctions due to any combination of electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems failures.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of related mechanical experience and/or specific welding, hydraulic, pneumatics or electrical training
  • Passing score on a pre-employment mechanical aptitude test administered by ISC
  • Ability to read, speak clearly, and understand detailed written and verbal instructions given in English
  • Ability to interpret and understand documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure and maintenance manuals, and instructions furnished in prose, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to keep a routine maintenance log
  • Strong and demonstrated ability to solve practical problems
  • Demonstrated dependability and attendance
  • Ability to work in a varied temperature environment that ranges from hot (95°F+) to cold (-10°F)
  • Ability to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and correctable close and distance vision.
