Sr. Manager, Finance - Revenue Recognition
EMC has an exciting and challenging opportunity for the position of Sr. Manger of our Software Revenue Compliance team. As a member of the EMC Corporate Finance Team, this position is directly responsible for the review and assessment of worldwide contracts, revenue analysis, forecasting, V.S.O.E. and Sarbanes Oxley 404 (SOX) compliance. In this highly visible role, the ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Software Revenue Recognition, strong managerial skills, ability to build strong working relationships with all levels within the organization, excellent customer service skills, and strong desire to improve processes, and familiarity with various licensing models and channel strategies.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assume leadership role for the Software Revenue Compliance organization, manage development and application of consistent revenue recognition rules, and document accounting position for EMC’s revenue generating activities on a global basis across varied business models, product lines and distribution channels.
· Oversee an organization of 6 FT Accountants, Supervisors and Managers
· Provide advice and support to the EMC Software Organizations on complex accounting issues during deal negotiations in order to ensure deals are structured in accordance with EMC’s Revenue Recognition policy, SOP 97-2 & U.S. GAAP to maximize revenue.
· Responsible for ensuring all Software Revenue transactions are reviewed, documented and accounted for in compliance with EMC’s Revenue Recognition Policy, SOP 97-2 and US GAAP.
· Responsible for Quarterly V.S.O.E. analysis for Maintenance, Training and Consulting.
· Manage Deferred License Revenue proactively pursuing resolution to maximize revenue.
· Develop and implement policies and practices in compliance with Corporate, SOX, US GAAP guidelines.
· Provide technical training to cross functional teams including Sales, Legal, Services, etc. as required.
· Maintain up to date and thorough EMC Revenue and underlying U.S. GAAP Accounting rules, including emerging issue in consultation with corporate HQ and independent auditors.
· Ability to work well with all levels of the organization including Sales, Legal, Services, Corporate Finance, Senior and Executive management.
· Drive and implement changes in all areas related to Revenue Compliance to improve processes, customer service and to maintain the highest level of integrity in accounting.
· Work collaboratively with IT, cross functional teams and corporate to oversee the alignment to the Corporate vision.
· Partner with IT to identify, develop and improve reporting to minimize and ultimately eliminate manual work around reports.
· Coordinate internal SOX compliance with corporate teams, walk through and testing to ensure on going compliance with Sarbanes Oxley 404.
· Manage the activities and career development of 6-8 staff members by maintaining open and clear communication and providing a positive and challenging team environment.
SKILLS
· Ability to understand and analyze sales transactions and legal contracts resulting in complex accounting transactions
· Ability to identify key risk areas, contemplate alternatives, draw conclusions and recommend and implement changes to mitigate any risk to EMC.
· Ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to mentor and develop staff and in collaboration with others to drive sound business decisions.
· Ability to set and achieve individual and departmental goals consistent with and supportive of the immediate organization and overall goals of the Finance organization.
· Ability to be a key technical and operational resource capable of evaluating business objectives, researching accounting literature to provide the appropriate accounting guidance to corporate groups such as Sales, Legal, Services, Global Operations, OM, Licensing and Pricing and Packaging.
· Proven influencing and leadership skills
· Understanding of business operations and ability to improve processes.
· Ability to handle multiple competing priorities
· Experience with Statement of Position 97-2, Software Revenue Recognition (SOP 97-2), Sarbanes Oxley 404
· Negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills.
· Excellent Customer Service Skills and ability to work well in a team is a must.
· Strong Working Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
· Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point), Experience with Oracle 11.03 and 11i (emphasis on SSP module) preferred.
· Ability to work independently with minimal direction by management.
· Extremely detailed oriented goal focused, organized and ability to consistently meet or exceed deadlines.
· Excellent Verbal and Written communication skills
· Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritize projects and deliverables, and interact effectively with cross-functional teams
· Ability to adapt quickly and positively to change
· CPA and/or MBA a plus; BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance Required
· 7 –10 years in Accounting at a large and/or high tech company with at least 5 years management experience.
