The Director – Internal Controls is accountable for evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of worldwide internal controls and practices to minimize the company’s risk exposure (both financial and operating), protect corporate assets, and ensure compliance to applicable laws on a global basis. Ensure that there is integrity, confidence, accuracy and trust in the company’s financial reporting and disclosures as measured by stakeholders. Work with stakeholders to implement appropriate controls when gaps are identified. Responsibilities & Duties PEOPLE LEADERSHIP:
Provides operational leadership for the team, including associate selection, training, coaching, development, planning, performance management, conflict management and recognition. Fosters a positive climate that promotes associate well-being and team effectiveness across the Finance Organization and Hypertherm. Associates understand and adhere to Hypertherm’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP:
Drives internal audits across business, functional, and regional teams to focus on identifying opportunities to mitigate risk across the business. Leverages leadership competencies and focuses on results to ensure team members support and are working towards execution of the team’s mission, operating plan and goals.
INTERNAL CONTROLS TESTING:
Lead the development of internal audit plans, test controls, follow-up, and report findings to senior management (including the Board of Directors) on a regular basis. Adjustments made as appropriate to meet changing business needs. Focus on audits and best practices related to Sarbanes Oxley and Enterprise Risk Management Framework that are appropriate for private company implementation.
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES:
Improve and maintain standard operating procedures (financial, accounting, operating) utilizing the UPK (User Productivity Knowledge) module in Oracle. Processes and practices documented for repeatability and consistency.
CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT:
Develops, implements and monitors global best-in-class standards and measurements/controls that promote lean and efficient operating practices (e.g. tools, metrics, surveys etc.), which ensures the segregation of duties and improves the efficiency and effectiveness of operating processes to sustain and promote growth.
As appropriate, collaborate with the company’s external third party auditors to review their annual findings. Develop plans and implement appropriate controls to mitigate identified deficiencies.
