Associate Systems Security Analyst

Duties: This position will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Ocean Service (NOS) with the implementation of information security policies and documentation. The candidate will be required to support the security program office throughout the FISMA certification and accreditation (C&A) process.

  • Write, edit, and review certification & accreditation documentation packages
  • Escalate and manage to closure issues that may need to be elevated to a C&A subject matter expert and/or to other technical teams
  • Track all recommended change requests from agency users and leadership
  • Evaluate advanced security technologies and provide recommendations regarding standardization and policies
  • Work in an Integrated Project Team (IPT) environment requiring interaction with other security analysts, users, and client managers in identifying requirements, specifications and project planning activities
  • Act within identified guidelines, standards, and policies
  • Requires occasional work outside of normal business hours and 10-15% travel
  • Reports to Senior Systems Security Analyst

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ideal candidate will be familiar with information technology practices and procedures, including the following skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in the information security field
  • Strong understanding of information technology concepts and practices
  • Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Must hold current or be eligible to obtain Federal Security Clearance at Secret or higher level
  • Familiar with current security tools and protocols
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting of subject matter experts, vendors, subcontractors, and clients
  • Ability to write clear and concise memos and documentation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiar with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800 Series and the application of these standards in real-world systems
  • GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) or CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Familiarity with DOD STIG documentation and NSA configuration guides

Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred

Compensation: Commensurate with experience; range is $55,000-$70,000 annually

Location: Silver Spring, MD (work to be performed at client site)
