Leadership Role in Mechanical Engineering



The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for technical management of the Mechanical engineering department .The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering is the primary contact for the business group team leader with regard to mechanical engineering issues. He/She is responsible for setting overall mechanical engineering standards of design, standards of quality and performance of the Mechanical engineering department. The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering is also responsible for achieving the schedule, organization and quality goals as dictated by the business group team leader

The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering must be an excellent communicator, an effective team leader, have the ability to multi-task, possess excellent client interaction skills, be detail oriented, assertive, an excellent and tenacious problem solver and have the ability to excel with minimal supervision.

The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering is to work in concert with the team leader, business unit director, outside consultants other discipline directors, contractors, clients and business unit representatives to make sure all overall company objectives are being met.

The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for the quality of all work in the mechanical engineering department and shall review all work and be in responsible charge of selected projects. The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering shall maintain up to date Mechanical specifications, drawing standards, operations procedures, and technical design standards.

The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering shall motivate all mechanical engineering department members and all team members to attain individual project and overall company goals as indicated by the Team Leader.
The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for all Mechanical staffing requirements and is responsible for maintaining a qualified staff of engineers to perform the work required by the engineering company. He/She is also responsible for maintaining proper professional registrations in states the company is performing work. The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering shall be responsible for the review of Mechanical department personnel for competence and salary adjustments

The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering shall be responsible for the performance of the mechanical staff and change and set priorities as required to meet project schedules.

The Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering shall prepare or review all mechanical man-hour estimates and pre-award documents prior to their release.


Key Responsibilities:

• Lead goal setting, performance management, organizational development, and reward and recognition process for mechanical engineering staff in Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth Offices addition,
• Establish direction and vision for the Mechanical engineering services infrastructure consistent with business group objectives. Thoroughly assess the needs of the business group and proactively recruit and develop the staff to support these objectives.
• Develop consistent firm standards regarding documentation, document formats, end-of-phase deliverables, CADD system standards, procedures for quality control, A/E integration and sustainable design.
• Partner with local Project Managers and technical staff to ensure the implementation of company standards and procedures; technical quality of documents, details and specifications; code review and interpretations.
• Collaborate with local technical staff in order to ensure high quality project execution during construction.
• Encourage intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary communication and collaboration at all levels and at all project phases with others.
• Provide input on appropriate staffing assignments with regard to skills and career development, decisions regarding training, and compensation for the technical staff.
• Ensure suitable level of visibility is maintained at professional conferences and trade association events.
• Facilitate conceptual design solutions and assist estimating in preliminary cost determinations.
• Assist in the determination of the scope of work with the program or project manager to assure that we provide the client with a complete system.
• Organize and direct the detailed design effort on projects that He/She is in responsible charge of.
• Provide technical reviews of the design as called for by company procedures.
• Organize and provide technical design standards for the department to assure high quality design work, done efficiently with cost effective solutions.
• Establish and monitor the design hours and costs to assure that the designers perform within the budget.
• Establish and monitor the design schedule and coordinate with the other design disciplines to assure that we deliver the documents on time.
• Provide training and mentoring of the staff to assure that their careers progress and that the company will continue to hire and retain the best staff.
• Provide performance reviews of the engineering staff to assure that we are constantly improving.
• Maintain professional registrations within the group in the states that the company is doing business.

Qualifications

• Highly regarded consulting professional possessing a minimum of 15 years mechanical design and engineering experience combined with at least 3-5 years leading, motivating and managing technical teams.
• Extensive knowledge of architecture and engineering principles and practices, including principles of sustainable design and construction.
• Licensed Professional Engineer by exam required
• BS Degree in Engineering required.
• Extensive program & project management skills and possess an ability to multi-task in a multiple project and technically challenging environment.
• Ability and desire to travel domestically up to 20% of the time.
