Building Environmental Services Technician-Contributing: North Carolina State University

Minimum Experience/Education: Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

NC State RIF candidates from grade 52 or higher have reinstatement priority.

This position is at the contributing level.

Departmental Required Skills: Good customer relations; able to climb a 6 or 8 feet ladder. Able to stand for long periods, crawl underneath tables and desks. Able to consistently lift up to 50 lbs, and
occasionally lift up to 90 lbs.

Must be able to communicate effectively with
supervisors and the general public. Must be able to understand instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: A stable work history.

High school graduate or GED. Three to Six-months institutional or commercial cleaning experience preferred.

Experience working with commercial cleaning equipment.
Able to distinguish between colors. Prefer previous training/seminars on restrooms and floor care cleaning procedures.

Essential Job Duties: Routine and detail cleaning of campus buildings interior and
exterior areas to include but not limited to lounges, rest-
rooms, offices, dormitory rooms, classrooms, entrances,
exits, and stairways. A written work schedule and color-
coded floor plan must be followed to complete work
assignment. General duties include mopping,
sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, removing waste/
trash.

Other Work/Responsibilities: Periodically strip and refinish floors, in addition to
shampooing carpets. May be required to fill in for
absenteeism outside of assigned area. Seasonal
window washing may be required. Pressure
washing entrances, exterior walls and windows
are required periodically. Some Saturday
and Sunday work required. Some outdoor
work during the winter. Employees are required to adhere
to safety requirements by wearing Personal Protective
Equipment to include gloves, boots, goggles and face
shields. Critical role employees must work during adverse
weather even if the University closes.
