The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), is seeking qualified candidates for our Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse positions within our Mental Health facilities throughout the state of Georgia .
As with other areas of nursing practice, psychiatric mental health nursing works within nursing models, utilizing nursing care plans and seeks to care for the whole person. However, the emphasis in mental health nursing is on the development of a therapeutic relationship in order to provide for the improved mental and physical health of patients.
Registered Nurses participate as a member of the interdisciplinary intake and evaluation teams for individuals making application to and seeking continuing developmental disability services. The Registered Nurse will provide nursing services, including written assessments, updates, technical assistance and consultation. Assessments require conducting interviews with consumers, family members, legal guardians, care givers and primary care physicians as needed. Administration of health risk assessment tools and functional assessment tools are required for which training is provided.
Responsibilities include making clinical recommendations and proposed action plans to the individual support plan team that supports the personal goals of the individual and addresses their medical needs in the community setting.
Qualifications
Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Professional Nurse
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates, who in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, possess the following:
- Experience working with consumers in mental health, developmental disabilities, addictive disease, forensic, long-term care or adult/adolescent
Note: Nurses with significant experience including supervisory skills may qualify to lead and supervise internal teams.

- East Central Regional Hospital-Augusta, serves consumers with disabilities including: mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse in the Augusta area.
- Located on 174 Acres in DeKalb County , Georgia Regional Hospital- Atlanta operates 366 licensed, accredited inpatient beds in five major program areas: Adult Mental Health, Adolescent Mental Health, Child Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, GRH/Atlanta also offers inpatient and outpatient Dental Services and an Outpatient Forensic Evaluation Program for juveniles and adults.
