POSITION SUMMARY
Plans, directs, implements and evaluates the operations of the Access Departments which are; In Patient Admitting, Emergency Department Registration, Surgical Services Registration, Out Patient Registration (multiple locations on site and several off site locations) and Central Scheduling. Manages and is responsible for all Patient Access IT systems and takes an active role in revenue cycle initiatives. Directs and participates in the department's planning, budgeting, education and human resource activities. Responsible for the training and departmental orientation of new employees and ongoing training of current staff. Exhibits excellent customer service/interpersonal skills. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards and regulatory governing bodies. Initiates programs to improve performance to enhance provision of services. Coordinates the activities of personnel in the area(s) assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Five to ten years experience in a Director Level position in an acute care hospital. College degree and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with and extensive knowledge of Patient Access IT programs and revenue cycle impact. Strong analytical skills. Medical terminology, office procedures, and customer service experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TECHNICAL
§ Responsible for department IT systems including but not limited to: ADT, Central Scheduling, Bed Placement
§ Implements and manages an effective ABN process that meets regulatory requirements.
§ Institutes managed care compliance that includes but is not limited to: precertification, insurance verification and referrals.
§ Develops and implements a strong, POS cash collection goal.
§ Trains staff and develops and uses monitoring tools to evaluate staff performance relative to ABN, managed care contracting, Medicare Secondary Payer, POS cash collections, and other goals as developed.
§ Understands the role of Patient Access in the hospital revenue cycle, and is an active leader and participant in revenue cycle initiatives.
MANAGEMENT
Creates an environment that promotes work force recruitment, retention and development within assigned areas to achieve and maintain quality services and positive employee relations.
§ Promotes customer/patient satisfaction with the staff by developing and maintaining positive relationships with coworkers, patients and their families, medical staff and visitors
§ Is responsible for, and maintains an understanding of, all aspects of operations in the department
§ Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively addresses issues; identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner.
§ Is flexible and responsive toward needs of department and assists in every way to meet patient care needs.
§ Performs other management functions that include but are not limited to:
o Actively trains and orients new employees.
o Creates and maintains departmental policies
o Participates in workgroups and in-services; makes positive contributions.
o Works collaboratively with all healthcare professionals and departments.
o Demonstrates telephone courtesy and initiative in addressing concerns of caller, models this for staff, and holds staff accountable for courteous interactions.

o Holds regular monthly departmental meetings
o Attends 100% of quarterly hospital-wide Town Hall meetings
