- Responsible for partnering with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and Harris Information Technology Services team members to install, maintain, operate, and replace large Base and Local Area networks in support of assigned contracts.
- Support the base team efforts that insure the site BAN/LAN network and network management environment is and remains reliable with performance exceeding the contract service levels.
- Support maintenance of network performance exceeding the contract Service Level Agreements.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of network devices including mounting, configuration loading, troubleshooting, support, and routine maintenance as directed by site management.
- Support and adhere to established policy and procedures governing work methods and performance.
- Participate with other site engineering and technician staff in all areas of work assignments, on-call duty support, and matrix resource sharing with other locations as required.
- Observe and report site network performance and capacity issues to the Lead Engineer.
- Closely coordinate activities with the servicing Network Operation Centers (NOCs).
- Support maintenance of the site BAN/LAN design and device configurations in accordance with established policy and procedures.
- Support site network documentation through use of established best practices, forms, and processes.
- Provide detailed activity level performance and productivity metrics and reporting as required by higher level management.
- Continue to maintain and expand your technical knowledge and certifications in Cisco equipment.
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the hardware and software deployed in the network including architecture and designs elements
Job Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Network Engineering or science.
- Strong non-degree candidates with demonstrated IT industry experience will be considered.
- Cisco CCNA (or demonstrated equivalent experience) required
- Minimum of 1-2 years of progressive increasing responsibility that demonstrates competency with network design, operational support, hands-on implementation, configuration and trouble-shooting of networking devices such as routers and switches with Cisco experience is required.
- Demonstrated competency in Cisco router and switch operating software for both IOS and set-based environments at current release levels is required.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation, support and trouble-shooting of VLANs including operational knowledge of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), VLAN trunking, inter-VLAN routing and ISL/802.1Q.
- Demonstrated competency in the understanding and support of standard routing protocols (BGP. OSPF, EIGRP) in an enterprise environment is required.
- Demonstrated competency in handling secure networks, Fast Switched Ethernet, GigE, and ATM is highly desired. Marconi ATM competency highly desirable.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Bachelors Degree in Network Engineering or science preferred.
- CCNP certification a plus.
