Job Summary: General Clerks examine incoming material and code it numerically, alphabetically, or by subject matter.
Essential Functions: · Store forms, letters, receipts, or reports in paper form or enter necessary information into other storage devices · Use bar code equipment to assign numbers/location identifiers to files and use bar code readers to find and retrieve files · Film or scan documents for storage and retrieval · Ensure that new information is added to files in a timely manner and may destroy outdated file materials or transfer them to inactive storage · Review files at regular intervals to make sure that all items are correctly sequenced and placed · Conduct searches for missing files or material · Implement changes to the filing system established by supervisory personnel · Request files via DHS automated systems and forward to the requestor upon receipt · Photocopy and distribute files as required · Track materials removed from files and ensure the materials are returned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: · Excellent oral and written English skills · Must be computer literate
Qualifications: · Must be a U.S. Citizen · High School diploma
