Requirements:
Under minimal supervision, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for all stages of interior book design from manuscript to bound book
- Main lists include Avon Mass Market and Avon Paperback
- Handle design stages of original titles, offsets, paperback conversions, re-pubs, reprints, series and template designs
- Design & prepare layouts for approval for original titles, spec manuscripts, provide castoff estimates, check proofs
- Desktop/ETM electronic paging and revisions; manage art program (art throughout, photo inserts)
- Prepare template designs for format and series titles
- Prepare final electronic PDF files for printing; preflight; pitstop conversion as needed
- Archive final files to DAM, create DW Asset for use in Digital Warehouse
- Prepare bound galley materials, digitally
- Keep Assistant Design Manager informed of project status
- Meet tight deadlines (essential); track schedules; maintain budgets
- Project manage design projects, using freelance designers, artists, cartographers, as needed
- Oversee projects through completion. Maintain budgets and schedules.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of prior relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of typography, graphic design
- Desktop electronic text flow using InDesign on a Macintosh platform
- Excellent written and oral communication. Good typing skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency with graphic software programs on Macintosh Platform mandatory: InDesignCS a must.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and QuarkXPress, Acrobat a plus.
- Ability to proofread own work, a plus.
- Must possess college degree or equivalent work experience (preferably in graphic arts).
