JOB SUMMARY:
Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in computer operations by performing the duties listed below personally or through subordinate associates.
Responsible for the maintenance and availability of Safety based servers and personal computers and peripherals.
("Safety" includes all Safety and Distribution Center locations as well as related operating entities.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
• Function as the Administrator for all Safety based Windows servers.
• Oversee IS Standards, Asset Tracking, Licensing for Safety and related operations.
• Recommend, purchase, configure, and install new servers and other computer technology.
• Adhere to Airgas' Microsoft Select Agreement.
• Adhere to Vendor Hardware Service Agreements.
• Handle relationship with Airgas Help Desk Support.
• Repair and troubleshoot local and remote Safety employee hardware (PCs, Laptops, Printers, Etc.).
• Support and troubleshoot software for local and remote Safety employees (Windows 2000, MS Office, etc.).
• Support upgrade and maintain client/server software for all Safety locations.
• Answer all levels of help desk calls.
• Provide After-hours on-call support.
• Recommend and purchase hardware and software for local and remote Safety clients, within the corporate standards.
• Administer, troubleshoot, and maintain file, application, and print servers.
• Administer LAN equipment (Switches, hubs, etc.).
• Maintain shared network printers and personal printers.
• Train new I.T. Associates, ensuring that they are familiar with various functions, duties, documentation and personnel to minimize interruptions to the users / Safety clients.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of all the equipment and systems supported by the department by keeping current with all documentation and bulletins.
• Maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Supervise and coordinate vendor maintenance of equipment.
• Plan and develop policies and procedures for carrying out computer operations.
• Adjust hours of work, priorities, and staff assignments to ensure efficient operation, based on workload.
• Meets with users to determine quality of service and identify needs.
• Meets with managers to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and service to users.
• Assist in the budgeting process for the Safety I.T. department and monitor expenditures.
• Oversee work schedules of staff to include over-time, vacations, sick leave and other impacts. Coordinate with other departmental managers to review project(s) status, discuss problem areas and plan future courses of action, e.g., Disaster Recovery Plan, control of testing processes, system malfunction procedures, and other processes/procedures.
• Develop and maintain the Safety Disaster Recovery Plan. Train users and assist them in developing disaster recovery procedures.
• Involved in staffing, performance review and evaluation, employee training and other related human resources management areas. Participates in departmental hiring, promotion, discipline and termination processes.
• Prepare periodic management reports including short-term plans, work schedules and operating results.
• Provide administrative support for assigned personnel, as well as mentoring, career development support and teambuilding to maximize productivity and foster positive employee relationships both internal and external to the department.
• Continue personal development and education to remain informed of current industry development and technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • BS in Computer/Information Science or a numerate discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 1-3 years in an IT Supervisor position preferred.
• Desktop application skills, MS Office, email, etc.
• PC repair and troubleshooting skill, A+ certification a plus.
• Networking, TCP/IP skills.
• Windows NT/2000 Server experience, MCP or MCSE certification a plus.
• Exceptional customer service and oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate computer processes to a variety of audiences.
• Strong problem solving abilities.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
