DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Taking direction from senior and lead engineers, support the development, analysis, tracking, and production of composite structures associated to Unmanned Air Vehicles. New design development as well as reverse engineering existing designs will be required.
  • Will use engineering principles to insure proper fit and function structurally and mechanically when exposed to various environments. Will perform detailed design layout and analysis tasks to insure that hardware meets all requirements.
  • Will interface with design and drafting personnel to obtain resources for detail design and drawing release.
  • Establish bill of materials. Establish and track project schedules. Interface with shop personnel to obtain resources and priorities to meet program schedule. Establish testing requirements for completed designs.
  • Perform various mechanical design tasks related to demonstrated competencies as directed. Design and fabricate first article flight hardware.
  • Track parts through the production process, document changes, verify tooling and component specification, inspect dimensional aspects of tooling and components.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to designers and engineers from remote location through the use of electronic and verbal methods.
  • Track progress of project and keep management informed of status and issues at regular intervals or as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BSME or equivalent plus 2 years experience. Experienced with composite structural design of components and assemblies in aircraft (race team environment acceptable). Experienced with prototype part design and associated tooling requirements. Experience working with machine and fabrication shop. Hands-on mechanical engineering knowledge and skill. Broad understanding of engineering principles. Thorough understanding of drawing requirements. Must be team oriented, self motivated, and responsible.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with the design and fabrication of primary (airframe) composite structure, and secondary composite structure supporting payload integration for aircraft in a small company environment. Experience with design and fabrication of lightweight, high performance composites. Pro/E surfacing skill set a plus
