No.: | SAE-SII-08-07 | | Division: | In-Service Engineering | | | | The primary function of this position is to conduct electrical/electronics system installations and troubleshooting aboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard Ships and various shore sites. The Senior Electronics Technician will be responsible for supporting the installation crew in all facets. · Performs tasks in the field of electronics installations, restoration, fabrication and repair. · Installs, repairs and tests various types of cable connectors, cableways, and fiber optics, and assists with connectivity issues. · Applies and demonstrates a detailed and thorough knowledge of electrical, electronic, and mechanical principals and theories, writing specifications, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment. · Uses experience and general purpose electrical/electronic test equipment to determine equipment malfunctions and apply skills in restoring equipment to operation. · Plans work, decides on material needs, determines power sources, chooses wire gauges, types and sizes of panels, etc. · Interprets and works from blueprints, drawings, manuals, handbooks and technical specifications. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Ten years general experience to include: 1) Experience in working with the principles of electricity, electronics, power systems, and shop practices and techniques, including electrical and electronic circuitry. Six years of experience in the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and installation including the installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, high density cable connectors, fiber optic cable connections, RF cable connectors, waveguide, and antennas. 2) Listed experience should include experience in reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, drawings, manuals, handbooks, and technical specifications, and preparing Telecommunications Service Request/Order/Change. 3) Listed experience should reflect experience in checkout and troubleshoooting of Naval automated telecommunications systems or its equivalent. Five years specialized experience to include: 1) Experience in troublshooting, repair and testing of electronics systems such as Radar and Interrogation, Friend or Foe; Air Traffic Control; Networks, Local Area (LAN) and Wide Area (WAN); Communications, Command, Control, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance (C4ISR); Cryptological; Navigational Aids; Video Teleconferencing; Simulators and Trainers; Electronic Sensor Systems, including Remote Sensor Systems for Physical Security; Closed Circuite Television; Telemetry; Test and Monitoring Systems (TAMS). Two years specialized experience on shipboard electronic system installation. Desired specialized experience also includes three years supervising (leading/being team leader) the installation of electronics equipment and the installation activities of other technicians. Prefer experience in a minimum of two of the following technical areas: Network/Systems Engineering (LANs, BANs, MANs, WANs), Command and Control (voice, video, and data integration, and S/W engineering), Communications (SATCOM, Terrestrial, RF propagation and engineering, switching systems, and network operations, testing and management), Network Security and Security Engineering (information detection, protection, assurance), Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3), Fleet Support (IT-21, NAVSSI, GCCS-M, NAVAIDS, COMMS), Physical Security (access control and intrusion detection systems, CCTV, badging) and Intel/Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems (CDAA, SURTASS, JWICS, and JICPAC and SECGRU systems). EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Degree or equivalent, and two years training in an appropriate industry trade school, military school, or recognized college. | |
