Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer

The Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer (SCNR) will report to the Director of Quality and Medical Management. Chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgery (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP). The SCNR works closely with the members of the Department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement within the preexisting PI structure and other pertinent special projects as identified.

Individual will organize and coordinate data abstraction, data entry, ensure data validity, presentation and preliminary analyses. The selected candidate may collaborate with primary investigator(s) on selected projects as directed. They will establish effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and the Information Systems Departments. They may contact patients and/or families via telephone and/or written communications postoperatively for the purpose of identifying possible occurrences associated with surgical procedures performed at the hospital. The selected candidate will also serve as an educational resource on the ACS NSQIP for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.

Qualifications:

Registered Nurse with BSN or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years experience in inpatient surgical nursing/Operating Room required. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience also required.

Qualified applicants will have experience in independent project management, efficiency, and have basic knowledge/understanding of the principles surrounding performance improvement, patient safety, quality of care, database data entry and/or management, and statistical knowledge. Must have experience and be able to demonstrate strong computer and Internet skills. Experience working with MS Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
