TITLE: SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - PHAGE DISPLAY - Seattle, WA

Job Description
PURPOSE:

The primary role for this position is to provide a technical function in the establishment of an antibody phage display group. The group will support both ongoing projects as well as contribute to the identification of new molecular targets for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Incumbents have responsibility for research experiments and data integrity, as assigned by management. Incumbents must be able to implement an experiment based on protocol design in consultation with supervisor.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Group Leader.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in support of the phage display process contributing to tangible results as measured by generation of high quality antibodies to defined target proteins.
· In collaboration with the research scientist, design and perform laboratory research experiments.
· Perform in vitro research to support multiple drug discovery efforts.
· Complete assignments requiring an advanced level knowledge of techniques and practices related to the research area.
· Ensure data integrity of NNIRC. Conduct data collection, interpretation and ensure proper documentation of experimental data. Maintain laboratory notebooks.
· Develop effective inter-departmental and cross-functional relationships.
· Manage site inventory. Order laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintain the laboratories and perform other job related duties as assigned.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

· B.S. with 5+ years experience from basic research or the pharmaceutical industry, or an M.S. with 3+ years of experience required. Level and title will be commensurate with the experience and education level of the selected candidate.
· Previous experience working with primary cells and cell lines.
· Experience with in-vitro or ex-vivo models of human disease.
· Experience with multiparameter Flow Cytometry and FACS.
· Prior experience with phage display of antibodies is a plus.
· Performance of a wide variety of technical procedures and in operation of varied lab instrumentation/computer platforms. Able to implement methods using journal articles and/or other scientists as resources, with guidance from supervisor.
· Data Analysis / Interpretation: Able to appropriately analyze and summarize experimental plans and outcomes, with guidance from supervisor.
· Trouble Shooting: Able to recognize problems with experiments, and suggest causes and propose solutions.
· Communication / Report Preparation: Ability to summarize experimental results clearly and accurately.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
· Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

OTHER:

· Works within Novo Nordisk's established policies and procedures and ensures alignment of their work to Novo Nordisk fundamentals.
· Ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
· Approximately 5% overnight travel
