Work closely with cross-functional product development team to create/update customer documentation Symmetricom designs, manufactures and markets atomic clocks and network synchronization and timing solutions used in wireline and wireless telecom networks, space, defense and avionics systems, and enterprise IT networks. Our customers include network service providers, telecom equipment manufacturers, military and aerospace contractors, enterprises, as well as government and research facilities in over 90 countries around the globe. We currently have an opportunity in our San Jose-based headquarters for a Lead Technical Writer to support the Telecom Solutions Division. Responsibilities: -
Work closely with a cross-functional product development team to create and update customer documentation, including User Manuals, Reference Guides, Installation Guides, Software Release Notes, Product Change Notices, and built-in product help systems for complex telecommunications/networking products and systems. Work on multiple small to medium-sized projects in parallel. -
Research solution requirements with marketing and customer service teams, product features and behaviors with globally dispersed engineering teams, decide scope, schedule, resources, and dependencies to plan the documentation development project. Work with internal and contract technical writers to assign work, manage and communicate progress, and deliver results to the overall solution development project. -
Use the product during late development to verify features and behaviors. Work with cross-functional team to review documents for clarity and accuracy. Adhere to quality standards and style guidelines across businesses, product lines, and applications. -
Propose, gain support for, and implement, improvements in results and methods. Essential Qualifications: -
Ability to perform all phases of technical publications development, including research, planning, writing, reviewing, editing, and publishing to multiple formats. -
Excellent writing and copy-editing skills required. -
Working knowledge of tools, such as AuthorIT, FrameMaker, FrameScript, RoboHelp, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office tools. -
Familiarity with Java language environment and jar files -
Experience working with cross-functional teams -
Excellent written and oral technical English language communication skills -
Good oral technical Chinese language communication skills -
Technical illustration skills using such tools as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. -
Experience with Product Data Management systems ? preferably Agile PLM. -
Willing to travel overseas occasionally; typically less than 2 weeks per six months -
BA/BS or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years experience in technical writing. Desired Qualifications: -
