Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health Center opened its doors in 1983, became affiliated with Sutter Health in 1992, and was converted to a not-for-profit behavioral health hospital. We are located on a private 14.5 acre setting on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The facility is the first and only free-standing center for psychiatry exclusively dedicated to behavioral health care in Hawaii.
We are dedicated not only to psychiatric, emotional and behavioral stabilization, but also to recovery through empowerment. Teaching individuals the skills to self manage and self-regulate to the fullest possible extent is a fundamental goal within the treatment and recovery process. Improving the overall quality of life for the people we serve is at the heart of Kahi Mohala's philosophy of care.
Located on 14.5 park-like acres, Kahi Mohala's 88-bed facility is Hawaii's only private, freestanding psychiatric hospital. Kahi Mohala provides comprehensive behavioral health services for adults, adolescents and children experiencing problems with psychiatric disorders, anxiety, depression, eating disorders. The buildings and grounds offer a complete residential and environment with an emphasis on patient safety and security.
The Medical Director shall be the chief medical officer and shall direct and coordinate the medical and psychiatric services of the hospital. Shall be accountable to the board, for the quality and efficiency of medical services and professional performance within the hospital. Shall be responsible for the effectiveness of the quality review functions delegated to the medical staff, for implementing actions and recommendations of the medical executive committee, and participate in activities to prepare for accreditation for Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Medical Director shall also perform other duties required of the Medical Director by Kahi Mohala Medical Staff Bylaws.
Graduate from an accredited school of medicine with an M.D. or D.O.; satisfactory completion of an approved psychiatric residency training program, and Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Is duly licensed to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii, and has all necessary narcotics and controlled substances numbers and license. Must maintain CME credits sufficient for licensure in the State of Hawaii. Prior work experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric treatment setting as a psychiatrist. Additional experience working in an administrative capacity in the field of behavioral mental health. Thorough knowledge of human development, psychiatric diagnosis, and intervention modalities with adults, children and adolescents. Knowledge of and adherence to American Psychiatric Association ethical standards. Understanding of varying management techniques, working with budgets, planning and development of health care systems. A solid knowledge of Joint Commission Accreditation of Health Organizations and the Performance Improvement concepts and processes. Ability to effectively work with a wide range of psychiatric treatment problems of adults and their families. Ability to cooperatively work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
