SENIOR AUTOMATION DEVELOPER / ANALYST – I.T. Operations

Job Description:
Ancestry.com delivers its revenue generating services via technology systems which must rely on accurate, trustable monitoring systems, views and alerts relating to the health and activity of those systems. Ownership, maintenance, fine tuning and customization of such tools reside within the IT Operations Center on the Automation Center team. The Automation Center team must a person with both deep IT admin experience, and significant development experience (coding ability in a hands-on role) in order to effectively select and customize, or when best to do so, develop the tools needed to provide trustable IT automation, monitoring and management technologies. The tools provided by this person and team are used across IT, and to some additional degree, across the enterprise (executive and reporting dashboards for example). The IT Operations Senior Automation Developer/Analyst will provide a critical skill set for rapid customization or development of the unique tool requirements of Ancestry.com’s I.T. Operations needs.

Key Responsibilities / Performance Requirements:
  • Perform the set up, administration, configuration and/or development of IT systems tools used for monitoring, reporting, analysis, incident and problem management, knowledgebase management and other needs, supporting multiple teams and multiple systems across multiple data center and corporate IT environments. Responsible for developing and maintaining code, scripts and system modifications or customizations used in the monitoring systems. Accountable for configuring, maintaining and administering HelpDesk or Service Desk ticketing systems, developing custom monitoring tools, as well as ongoing deployment, upgrading and customization of enterprise systems management and monitoring software.
  • Develop an end to end monitoring tool system utilizing open source and purchased tools.
  • Establish and implement software versioning methods and branching strategies utilizing industry best practices.
  • Work closely with IT teams to support monitoring and environment set-up; establishing monitoring tests and methods, reviewing monitoring reports and data for fine-tuning and improvement.
  • Maintain library of scripts, source code, system customizations and user documentation for re-use and/or training.
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or demonstrable equivalent discipline and experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of hands-on software development that includes multiple scripting languages (Java, Javascript, VBA, VB Script, PowerShell, .NET, PHP), testing and deployment of software solutions in an IT tools environment. Minimal supervision to perform tool administration, configuration, development and scripting.
  • 3 – 5 years experience as a DBA on MS SQL 2000, 2005 and 2008, including writing and maintaining SQL stored procedures.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience installing, configuring, and administering monitoring and system management tools; two years of direct experience administering software versioning for multiple internal systems and software products. Excellent, demonstrable vendor relations. Experience with CA Spectrum, eHealth, Wily preferred.
  • 4 - 5 years of hands-on IT systems administration, including MS Windows servers, SAN/NAS devices, switches, routers, network appliances, databases and other IT systems in a multi-data center environment.
