Weapons Systems Technician – Cannon Crewmember
As a Cannon Crewmember in the Army National Guard, you join a team that ensures the U.S. maintains its battlefield superiority. You will have the opportunity to learn and use high-tech cannon artillery weapons systems and artillery tactics and strategy – both of which translate into comparable civilian skills, such as familiarity with technology, strategic thinking, and decisiveness.

As a Soldier in the Army National Guard, you join an elite group of warriors who train part-time to be ready full-time, should their State or Nation call them to serve. The Guard is the oldest branch of the military and its members have a long and noble history of serving at home and abroad to ensure the safety and freedom of their fellow citizens.

Major duties

  • Conducts wire and radio communications
  • Identifies target locations
  • Sets, loads, and fires howitzers and other types of artillery
  • Uses computers to generate fire direction data
  • Operates heavy and light wheeled trucks and tracked vehicles
  • Transports and manages artillery ammunition
  • Maintains operational readiness of vehicles and equipment

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (If you do not have a diploma or GED, you may still apply – ask a recruiter about how the Army National Guard can help you earn your GED)
  • Must be male – this job is not open to women
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 42
  • Must be able to lift very heavy objects
  • Must have normal color vision
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
