Overview: Maximizes departmental sales performance through delivery of high-quality customer service and demonstrated sales floor leadership. The core responsibility for the Group Sales Manager is to drive the sales of their department, ensure optimal customer service, support “Customer First” initiatives, maximize promotional events, promote credit and to develop subordinates to their full potential. Advanced duties may include special storewide assignments and developmental responsibilities.
Key Accountabilities:
- Proactively supports and delivers the Macy’s brand promise in all activities and tasks, projecting Macy’s as the best place to work and to shop.Creates and maintains a positive work environment through effective people management, leadership and appreciation of diversity.Drives Macy’s culture by ensuring customer service is the #1 priority.
- Ensures that the Sales Team is empowered with “Customers First” service philosophy and follows up with appropriate coaching and counseling.
- Educates and supports Associates as they strive to achieve selling specialist status.
- Supports the company’s selling capability initiatives by modeling the program and holding their Associates accountable to achieve the desired results.
- Manages their selling staff’s productivity standards, inclusive of items per transaction, and average dollars per transaction.
- Drives sales within assigned area(s) and demonstrates leadership in the area of selling supervision.
- Communicates credit goals and results, and coaches Associates to aggressively sell credit.
- Trains, develops, monitors and coaches Associates regarding product knowledge, customer service, selling capabilities and replenishment/recovery and basic merchandising skills.
- Responsible for the retention of Associates, maintaining turnover percents within an acceptable range.
- Prepares and delivers monthly and quarterly performance appraisals for assigned Selling Staff.
- When necessary conducts crucial conversations with Sales Associates.
- Recruits, interviews and hires talented Sales Associates.
- Assists Store Manager in recruiting Group Sales Manager candidates.
- Ensures an outstanding shopping environment by managing the replenishment/recovery process through their Associates.
- Develops a plan to ensure fitting rooms are kept clean, tried-on merchandise is returned to the floor in a timely basis and sales floor presentation standards are maintained throughout the day.
- Through Sales Associate product and promotional education maximizes key items and key merchandise classifications.
- Manager in Charge Responsibilities as assigned by Store Manager (responsibilities may include: Safety, Credit Driver, Selling Specialist Program, Training, Recognition, STARcouncil, Shortage Awareness).
- Actively plans, trains and follows through with all activities that result in a successful execution of annual inventory.
- Responsible for coaching associates in their departments to aggressively promote safety and consistently serves as a role model, demonstrating safe work habits.
- Ensures compliance with ADA standards.
- Responsible for shortage control in the areas they oversee. Participates in Shortage Awareness Week, ensures compliance of merchandise exposure standards, maintains cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.
- Ensures that timekeeping and attendance standards are adhered to.
- Prepares damaged merchandise to be returned for processing.
- Conducts timely communication with the Merchandise Managers regarding merchandise assortment or quantity issues, job openings and Sales Associate Selling capabilities.
- Covers breaks on the sales floor as necessary.
- Accepts sick calls and adjusts work schedule as necessary (weekend duty).
- May be asked to perform job tasks not specifically related to primary assignments for the success of the business (i.e. inventory, special events, holiday sales, etc.) as requested by management.
Skills Summary:
