Network Control Technician - Portsmouth, VA: Harris Corp.

• Responsible for installing, supporting, troubleshooting and maintaining the network.
• Works with product support specialists to resolve installation and quality problems.
• Operates under general supervision.

• Perform installations, technical support; troubleshoot the operation and maintenance of network equipment.
• Work closely with switches, routers, hubs, cables, racks, DSL, LRE, and the interfaces to the WAN connection.

• Install and upgrade software and hardware equipment.

• Maintains best practice knowledge on hardware and software deployed in the network and the overall architecture and designs of products.

• Monitor the network to ensure functionality.

• Work as a team member with technicians and engineers to solve technical problems, provide technical assistance during all phases of the installation, operation, and maintenance of network and user equipment.

• Certification of competencies and knowledge of best practices are expected to be obtained and maintained, particularly on the CISCO equipment.

• Ability to work extended hours, 24/7 (as required) shift work or on call.

Job Qualifications:

• 1-3 years experience with installation and technical support of high-speed networks.
• 1- 3 years experience with LAN/WAN in performing installations, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various network devices.
• Experience conducting surveys, designing ISP/OSP installations, and overseeing infrastructure work required.
• Ability to install software configurations on routers and switches and verify their performance.
• Strong problem solving and methodical troubleshooting required.
• Working knowledge of Adobe acrobat, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, and Remedy software.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• CCNA or BICSI certifications preferred.
• Previous experience working on military bases/sites, including previous military service highly desirable.
• General knowledge of OSPF and BGP desired.

This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Secret security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
