Portfolio Controller Job Description to the CFO

Summary Job Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements including the explanation of variances to budget to property management, senior management and investors and all balances sheet work-papers on an accrual basis.
  • Serve as the lead contact with outside CPA firm during the annual audit and preparation of tax return, prepare all applicable work-papers
  • Monitor the cash position of the portfolio cash projections and capital calls
  • Ensure the prompt payment and coding of all pay-ables
  • Serve as the lead contact with mortgage lender ensuring that all reporting requirements are met, that construction draws are monitor the overall accuracy of the rent roll include the processing of new leases, vacancy and ancillary revenues
  • Supervise staff accountants and clerical staff

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of real estate or investment accounting experience (some public accounting experience a plus) residential real estate a plus
  • Yardi experience is preferred but not a must so long as the candidate has strong knowledge of another real estate property management or investment accounting system such as BJ Murray and MRI
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
