The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.2 million members and online activists. Position Summary:

NRDC seeks an Application Coordinator / Developer who has solid knowledge and experience with application evaluation, selection, deployment and ongoing management and a complete understanding and direct experience with database technologies and applications. The Application Coordinator is part of the IT department based at the NY headquarters and will report to the IT Director; this position will work closely, and across all NRDC locations, with staff in the IT department as well as the application users/customers and consultants. The Application Coordinator is also responsible for interacting and coordinating activities with the IT operations personnel in areas involving server platforms, data management, and communications. A strong background with server/platforms, off-the-shelf applications, systems and solutions, and data management and recovery will be necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with IT Director to evaluate and recommend application solutions to meet organizational and departmental needs
  • Plan, pilot, implement, maintain and manage NRDC applications
  • Perform custom development and database management duties according to industry best practices
  • Develop and/or coordinate the development and implementation of web and local apps and/or customize existing or off-the-shelf applications and systems
  • Coordinate training of and/or directly train users and other team members as required
  • Data and database planning and management
  • Data integrity and recovery planning, management and testing
  • Documentation of applications, application usage, policies, procedures and processes

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, business computers or related field
  • 5+ years MS SQL Server / application development experience
  • 3+ years MS Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2008
  • 3+ years MS Sharepoint 2003 and 2007
  • 3+ years MS Access, Visual Basic
  • 2+ years MS Great Plains, Pledgemaker, PIDI
  • Ability to create Web based code and applications using Java, HTML, XML, Cold Fusion, PHP, ASP.NET, MYSQL and other related tools.
  • Variety of data management, backup and recovery solutions
  • Familiarity with Concordance/LexisNexis
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment with the capability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to maintain productive working relationships remotely
